Matt Vincent Road To Victoria...

Last weekend I got back up to Victoria, British Columbia to compete.  First let me say that this is one of the best games there is.  I love it up there: people, weather, and the city. Victoria is doing a lot of things right and she is a sassy old gal.  Amazing food and beer topped off with a climate I can enjoy both while sitting outside on a patio.  Getting drunk and disgustingly full while outside in cool weather is the best thing ever.  Add to that a solid as fuck group of dudes to share a great time and bunch of laughs with.  All that adds up to two giant thumbs up in my book. The games went great.  Training so far this season has been a struggle.  Having some joint pain, and sometimes I can’t seem to even get around.  Time crunched more than usual. Working hard to keep myself motivated to throw.  I love training and  I love the variety of things I can do while training and staying healthy.  Being involved in a sport like Highland Games places some unique demands on training just like any other sport.  The biggest difference between throwing and other strength sports is that the amount I lift is not important at all. Spending time out in the field is key to throwing well.  You have to get the reps.  Not just reps, but reps with intention.  I am thinking now what am I trying to accomplish this session.  I try to keep one or two goals for the session.  That could be making sure I am finishing throws, drive out of the back, get off my left foot in the stone, and push the right hand in the hammer. Finding the balance and training smart is...
